Prayer: Where Heaven and Earth Collide

Oswald Chambers once said that prayer is a holy and solitary occupation. I think he was right. Prayer is that space where Heaven and Earth meet. Where the holy and the sinful commune. The prophet Isaiah said it like this “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool." (1:18) If we look at this verse in context (Isaiah 1:16-20) we'll see that God is initiating this conversation and it is God who lays out the terms by which He will accept their services and sacrifices. God opens the door to commune with Him and says if you want me to draw near to you put away sin and hypocrisy. Do good and keep my commandments. Unless we somehow think this is an Old Testament view and that God has somehow changed, we need only to look to Jesus' Sermon on The Mount (Matthew 5-7), James chapters 1-2 and any of the Epistles written by the Apostle Paul.
Prayer is where we come to be washed and cleaned and renewed. Prayer helps us to take off the old man and put on the new. Prayer is the place where sanctification finds its fuel. Prayer causes us to depend on God Alone and while that may seem scary it's no more frightening than a child being bathed and instructed by his father.

God loves hearing from His children. If you're unsure how to pray start with your Bible Studies or the notes you took in church. Pray the prayers found in Scripture. Praying God's Word back to Him is a great way to get His Word sown into your heart. Stop waiting on warm fuzzy feelings and some fake so-called anointing to bring you to prayer. You love God? God loves you more than you could ever fathom. Come to Him with what you've got. Prayer is a place of transformation, when you walk away, whether you feel it or not, you have been changed, for no one can come into true contact with God and not be forever transformed.

In Christ,
